There is a saying that beauty is "only skin deep." Beautiful skin needs a whole body of care to keep it looking and feeling its best. For those who wish to concentrate on skin care as a career, we offer our Esthetics and Spa Therapy Program. The Esthetics Institute at Concord Academy takes pride in educating all students in the fundamentals of skin care.
Esthetics & Spa Therapy (Skin Care)
Imagine spending a day in a spa. The relaxing surroundings, the soft music, the calming scents. Now imagine that you can not only spend every day in the spa, but be well paid for it! And all while you provide some of the most sought after services in the beauty industry today.
Facials
The picture of luxury or a therapeutic treatment? That depends on you. You will learn soothing, relaxing facials that make your client feel like a princess AND the latest in clinical and para-medical techniques to help treat acne, rosacea and more.
Spa Body Treatments
What would you give for softer, smoother skin from head to toe? How much is it worth to have a golden glow all year long without damaging your skin? Quite a bit, from what our clients tell us. Learn how to perform a wide range of relaxing, rejuvenating treatments for the body. Be a part of the growing spa industry.
Clinical Esthetics
More and more physicians see the benefits of esthetics services for their patients. From pre- and post-surgical treatments to advanced skin resurfacing techniques, you could become associated with dermatologists and plastic surgeons in serving our maturing population. Or work with the chronic problem of acne in teens and adults.
Where do I start?
Good question. Since you have found us here, you have taken the first step. Now ask yourself some questions:
Is this the kind of work I could enjoy doing every day?
Do I like working with and helping all kinds of people?
Would I look forward to each day being unique, unlike any other?
Am I willing to strive to be the best I can be?
When you answer "yes" to these questions, it is time to consider a career in Esthetics.
What kind of training do I need?
While the requirements vary from state to state, New Hampshire requires that you complete a number of hours of training and that you pass a State Board exam to show competence.
It makes sense that you learn from Instructors who have been successful in their fields.
Your Instructors should be actively employed performing the services they teach.
Look for a combination of training in technical skills and personal development when you interview a potential school. Technical skills alone do not assure success.
Experts suggest that you visit and consider several schools before you make your final decision. The best school for you may not be the closest.
How long is your program?
The State of New Hampshire requires 600 hours of training in a licensed school for Esthetics.
The Esthetics Institute offers both a full-time day program and a part-time evening program. Daytime classes are held Tuesday though Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The class week is 30 hours, which results in the Esthetics and Spa Therapy Program taking 20 weeks and the Advanced Clinical Esthetics program taking 30 weeks.
If you prefer an evening program, the classes are held Tuesday through Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This results in a 17-hour week, with approximately 35 weeks to finish the 600-hour program. There is some additional flexibility in scheduling with the approval of the Director.
We have additional open Clinic hours during the evening and on Saturday mornings for Students to make up missed time or to gain more "real world" experience during what are traditionally busy times in a Spa or Salon.
What kind of credentials does the Institute have?
The Esthetics Institute has consistently been regarded as the best in
the state, by both our graduates and their employers, since our
inception in March of 2000. We are an accredited school with licensed
instructors, Certified Mediesthetic™ Specialsts and low student to staff
ratios. We also offer a staff with over 50 years combined experience as
licensed skin care professionals to ensure our students receive the best
education possible.
What experience do your Instructors have?
Our Licensed Instructors are experienced in all areas of esthetics as well as prior experience in natural foods, sales and retailing, makeup artistry and energy therapies. All our Instructors have worked successfully as estheticians before joining our instructional staff. All Instructors participate in ongoing training in advanced skills, adult education and personnel management.
Where do your graduates work?
Our graduates are working in locations as diverse as salons, day spas, destination spas, medi-spas and fitness centers. The people who employ our graduates are thrilled with the skills and professionalism they bring to their new career.
